
Speech Disorders
This new volume in the PERSPECTIVES ON DISEASES & DISORDERS series provides an overview of speech disorders, including diagnosis, prevention, and current research. Controversies surrounding speech disorders -- including the prevalence of discrimination against stutters, the role of brain function and speech therapy in treating speech disorders, and the role of anxiety and family dysfunction in selective mutism -- are discussed. Personal stories of people impacted by speech disorders, such as a women who tried for years to hide her stuttering and the mother of a young boy with selective mutism, are also included.
